I have bipolar and suffer depression and panic attacks. I cannot seem to keep a job because of my illness. I also am an alcoholic but I am not drinking now. I have no Ins. I am working a part time job right now but for how long at burger king. I cannot survive with no money no place to live I also have child support to pay I am getting behind on that. I've had this illness along time but it is getting worse with age. I am 50 years old can you help me. thank you very much.
Danny, If you've paid into Social Security for a long enough period of time, and if you are currently earning below $1,000 a month and can prove that you have a medical condition that meets the Social Security Administration's definition of a disability, you could qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance benefits, or SSDI. You could get help under the Supplemental Security Income program, or SSI, too. Yuo might want to check in with your local SSA office first to find out what they say about your options. Read more about SSDI and SSI in the "Disability Benefits" section of our Web site.
I have applied for SSI, and Disability, I was denied. I am 64 years old, disabled with two total knee replacement, a torn rotator cuff, and my blood pressure is out of control. I have been doing substitute teacher work but had to stop because of my health. I am constant in pain, legs, feet and hands stay swollen after I am up on my feet for a long period of time. I get dizzy and fatique while walking. My legs goes out while walking some times. I am on pain medications that makes me sleepy. I only have 30 credits with social security. Can the remainder of 6 credits be waived since I cannot work? Please let me know if you can help me. It is hard living on $733.60 a month from retirement.
Dorothy, When someone is on SSDI, the benefit turns into that person's Social Security retirement benefit at retirement age. The amount is based on work earnings. Since you are already taking your retirement benefit you would not be able to get disability benefits from Social Security too.
While working at a temp agency Able Body I stepped on a rusty nail and was treated by my employer with a tetanus shot. However the infection worsened and after a few days I was driven by a relative to the emergency room at North Central Baptist Hospital. The hospital informed me that the nail had caused an infection and I would need surgery for the infection and to clean out the swelling. I’ve had two surgeries since then. I’ll be under the care of North Central Baptist Hospital for the next 2-3 months. They will have to continue to clean the wound with an Air-Vac and give me fluids. If I don’t get the proper treatment they will have to amputate my leg. I may also need a skin graph to replace the flesh from my foot due to the surgeries. I have bills and no other financial assistance, would I qualify for disability at least until recovered?
Rafael, Social Security disability insurance is for people who have paid into Social Security long enough and recently enough (if you are over 31 that would be a total of five non-consecutive years within the last 10 year period) and you must have a severe medical condition that is expected to prevent you from working at any job for 12 months or longer. You may be able to get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) if you have low income and few resources. Your local Social Security office could advise you on that possibility. Your employer may also provide short-term disability insurance. You should check into that. Local social services may be able to help you too. Good luck with your recovery.

I am 29 years old and i have seizures. i started having seizures in september 18, 1998. i was getting ready for school and i blacked out and i know what was happening to me until i started coming around when i was being rolled up the driveway to the ambulance that was at the end of the driveway. i have tried once before to get disablility and was turned down and now i am trying again this year. i turned the paperwork with all of the information that they needed, but i still need help doing that. i haven't worked outside the house for awhile. i still have seizures and having trouble finding a way to get help on my medical bills and medicine that i have right now. i don't have medical coverage at all. but my son has medical coverage right now.

I'v been denied three time , and I'v stage three breast cancer, High blood pressure, my right leg is paralized from a stab wound to the chest, neck. I'll soon have my left breast removed due to the cancer, I'm very depressed and sometimes I don't know what to do I feel like committing sucide, but I know that god doesn't want me to do that so if u can help me give me a call.
I have a question? I have spinal stenosis and severe carpal tunnel. Today I have been approved for SSI In addtion, the SSDI's application requested 15 years of my work history. My question: Can you you calculated what may be my benefits? I understand the Wisconsin rule is$685.00 for SSI. What if my SSD is also $685.00? Thanks , wandajenkins@live.com
Hi Wanda, Your monthly payments are based on your lifetime earnings in addition to other adjusting factors including whether or not you are receiving other types of disability insurance such as Workers’ Compensation payments, SSI, etc. Some may think that if they qualify for the maximum benefit for SSI, and also qualify for an SSDI benefit, that they can then get both maximum amounts each month. This is not the case. Combined benefits could give you just a few dollars extra than if you received one or the other. This is because your SSI benefit is based on need and your SSDI benefit will increase your countable income, reducing your “need” and SSI amount. Click here to learn more about receiving both SSI and SSDI benefits.

Hi Tina, Thank you for your comment. I would say the first step is to get an evaluation from one of our eligibility consultants. You’ll be asked some questions about your condition and how it interferes with your ability to work. You’ll also be asked about your work history to help determine if you are insured for benefits. This free consultation will also give you some guidance on what your next steps should be. I hope you’ll call us at 866-761-5942.
@ Ashley thank u and i will be in touch i am gonna call Monday to consult I appreciate your response i really do think i will be using this service every step of the way as i think freedom disability will be able to help me through the process of all of this.Again thank u.
