Application Deadline is January 8 for D.C. Summer Internship Programs for College Students with Disabilities

 

You have an amazing opportunity to work in Washington, D.C. this summer if you are a college student with a disability.

The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) is hosting two internship programs for students interested in pursuing careers in government or information technology (IT).

There are only eight spots open for the Congressional Internship program, and ten for the IT Internship program. Undergraduate college students with any type of disability can apply.

Past Congressional intern placements included:

Senator Barack Obama (D-IL)
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY)
Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS)
Congressman F. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI)
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD)
Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA)

IT placements included:

US Coast Guard
Department of Homeland Security
US Patent and Trade Office
National Science Foundation
US Department of Transportation
Transportation Security Administration
Federal Aviation Administration

Very cool!  These programs give students with disabilities exciting work-experience opportunities.
