SSA’s Open Government Web Page Has Launched

White HouseThe public can now interact with the Social Security Administration at its new “Open Government” Web page, which launched this week.

The Web page supports President Obama’s “Transparency and Open Government” initiative to engage public participation in government policymaking efforts.
What does this mean to you?  You can post ideas on what you think SSA can do to improve efficiencies.  Just click on “Share your ideas on our open government plan” at the top right of the Web page to get started.  You can also read, discuss and vote on ideas submitted by others.  SSA will use these ideas to help develop their Open Government Plan, which will be published in April.
As we said in ourJan. 22 post, the President’s transparency policy has made it possible for the public to access data about SSA’s disability hearings process.  This was one of SSA’s first open policy achievements. So, if you are waiting to get scheduled for a hearing with an Administrative Law Judge on your disability claim, you can get a sense of how long it might take. Each of the 143 regional offices across the country is ranked according to their claims-processing times.
The Open Government Web page is a public portal to this data, as well as a place for the public to access the latest on SSA activities, news and reports – and engage in the development of SSA’s Open Government plan. If you think all this openness in government is a good thing, click here to share your thoughts with SSA.
